Miss Nightingale Visits

Posted by on 15/09/2014

Last week everybody took part in our Florence Nightingale day. Everyone made a great effort to come as Victorian children and all looked fantastic! In the morning, Miss Nightingale told us a little bit about what was happening in Crimea and what the hospital was like at Scutari. She asked us to help her raise money to buy equipment for the hospital. We all made some items that we could take with us to Scutari or sell to make money. We made diaries, pill boxes, candle holders, greetings cards, medals and much more! After break we had a go at being detectives. All of the suitcases of the people travelling to Scutari with Miss Nightingale got mixed up. It was our job to look through them and decide who they belonged to to solve the mystery. Before lunch, Miss Nightingale told us a story about a young boy called Fred and his experience in the war as a young soldier. In the afternoon, Miss Nightingale set us to work at Scutari as patients, nurses, porters, gardeners, and chefs! It was a brilliant day and we found out lots of information that will help us to have a fantastic start to this half-term’s topic.
